Music at The Minster

"I’ve enjoyed playing different instruments at the Junior School.  They are different skill playing musical instruments.  When we’re older, we might be able to join an orchestra"... Year 3 pupil

Music is a major part of The Minster Junior School life!

We are proud to say that every child in Year 3 learns either a cello or violin as part of the Croydon Sound Start Project. In Years 5 and 6, pupils are taught to sing and play musically with increasing confidence and control.  They develop an understanding of musical composition, organising and manipulating ideas within musical structures and reproducing sounds from aural memory.  This is achieved by following the Music Express scheme.  Peripatetic teachers of violin, brass, flute, oboe, guitar, piano and bassoon visit the school weekly. Children learning these instruments are encouraged to play in the school ensemble groups.

All children may join a choir which is drawn together for special events. We aim to share our musical activities with the wider community, either at the Croydon Minster or at Senior Citizens groups.
