Special Projects

Welcome to our Special Projects page!

Here you will find out about various projects our children have been involved in that enhance and broaden their learning experiences.

There may be a focus on social aspects or team building. All are designed to encourage independent thinking. Many of our special projects are featured in the Image Gallery.

Year 3 Japanese Pen Pal

Kingfishers have been writing to pen pals in Fukishima, Japan.
Kumi (charity, Fukushima Friends UK) has been translating the letters from Japanese to English for the pupils. Today, she visited and read  two stories using traditional  picture cards.
“Kamishibai”.  Kamishibai means story telling using picture cards.
“Kami(紙)” means paper and “shibai(芝居)” means play or drama.
When Kumi was a child, she lived in a very small village in Japan. There were NO, BUSES, NO CARS, NO TVS, NO Computer games!!  However sometimes a man came by bike with Kamishibai. Children would gather around him and he would set up Kamishibai. She would pay 10 pence for each story.  She would be really excited to listen to him and see the pictures.
